A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old juvenile have appeared in court, charged with the murder of 44-year-old Barry Daly in Doneraile. The two appeared at a sitting of Mallow District Court yesterday afternoon.

Samples taken from dead birds at Fota Wildlife Park in Cork have tested positive for bird flu. The park says it will remain closed to the public today after preliminary tests on a number of dead geese showed a positive result for avian influenza.

The EU is considering a new rule that would require airlines to allow one small hand luggage item, up to 7kg free of charge. However the industry isn’t happy, an airline association told the Irish Independent “passengers don’t want it,” arguing that forcing carriers to offer free cabin bags could drive up ticket costs.
