The Tanaiste is welcoming an appeal into the sentences received by people involved in the attack which killed Private Sean Rooney. Trooper Shane Kearney from Killeagh was also seriously injured in the incident in Lebanon in December 2022.

In the North, two men will appear in court today as part of the investigation into the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell. The PSNI officer was shot multiple times after coaching a youth football team in Omagh, County Tyrone in February 2023.

Anglers are being asked to refrain from fishing on a stretch of the River Blackwater in North Cork. Inland Fisheries Ireland is investigating a possible fungal infection which may have killed up to 1,000 brown trout, on an 8km stretch between Mallow and Roskeen Bridge.
