In the wake of the storm segments of roads were washed away in East Cork, rivers burst their banks and homes and businesses were flooded in Midleton, Mogeely, Glanmire, Blackpool, Rathcormac and Raffeen

Many motorists were forced to abandon their cars as they got caught in flood waters as they tried to make their way home and get to higher ground .

David Joyce Director of Services with the City Council says there is still some debris on roads and spot flooding so caution is advised

"The clean up started early this morning, we have crews back out on site but we would advise motorists there was a lot of surface water across the city yesterday. There will be a lot of debris - leaves branches and other debris that was washed out of rivers. There may also be some low lying parts of roads where there is still flooding so we would please ask motorists to please slow down, drive with extra care and attention. Do not drive into flooded waters - if you see flooded waters, turn around and report it to Cork City Council on 021 492400 "
