A Cork TD says he has been unable to get SouthDoc to confirm if they plan to eventually close their centre in Fermoy.

Seán Sherlock was speaking after the HSE released a statement on behalf of Cork Kerry Community Healthcare and SouthDoc.

The statement says a person in Fermoy requiring care, will be able to get an appointment at the Fermoy Treatment Centre or a home visit and says there is no reduction in service to North Cork.

SouthDoc operates outside normal surgery hours and on weekends and bank holidays.

RedFM News has requested a statement from the HSE after being subsequently contacted by someone who claimed the "red eye" service in Fermoy from 10pm to 8am would be ending.

Speaking to RedFM News, Deputy Seán Sherlock is calling for clarity over the future of SouthDoc in Fermoy.

"What I have not been able to ascertain in very clear language from SouthDoc is whether or not they are going to close the service in Fermoy.

"I don't believe for a moment that the decision to close the service of SouthDoc in Fermoy on a redeye or out of hours basis is appropriate.

"I think it will only drive more and more people to centres like Mallow, or Glanmire, or Midleton, and I think the entirety of the service will suffer as a result."
