The Taoiseach is visiting two housing schemes at the Docklands today.
Over 600 affordable homes will be delivered by the Land Development Agency - at Marina Depot and Horgan's Quay.
The apartments, which will be completed by the second half of next year, form part of a wider plan to transform the Docklands into a thriving city district.
Land Development Agency Chief Executive John Coleman says a key milestone has been reached today:
"When finished, the Cork Docklands will accommodate ten thousand homes and workplace for about twenty five thousand people. But what's special about the Taoiseach and Minister's Brown's visit today is that it marks the point at which the Land Development Agency, in partnership with the Council, is above ground on the construction of almost six hundred and fifty apartments and two projects. And these are not only the first apartments of the Cork Docks area but there the first apartments anywhere in Cork for many years"
