The Taoiseach has turned the sod on a new €290,000,000 expansion at pharmaceutical company Merck in Carrigtwohill.

The company today announced a €440,000,000 investment to expand the current site and to build a new manufacturing facility at Blarney Business Park.

The group say the expansion will create over 370 new jobs by the end of 2027.

Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the investment:

"It's a huge vote of confidence in the region, huge vote of confidence in the employees at Merck here, and the company detailed to me the very significant role that this company played globally, this manufacturing facility here, in terms of all the antigen tests all over the world. So it gives you a very good snapshot of the extraordinary contribution that companies have of this scale and quality in Cork is making to the global healthcare sector."
