The Taoiseach says that comprehensive documentation about the attempted appointment of Katherine Zappone as a United Nations envoy, will be released by the Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday.

At an event to mark the 75th Anniversary of the Irish Naval Service, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says that he believes the release by the Department on Monday will bring clarity.

Minister Simon Coveney is to reappear before the Oireachtas Committee on Tuesday to answer further questions on the matter.

Speaking at Hawlbowline today, Micheal Martin says further transparency is necessary and will be provided:

"There's a need for transparency. Government has to be held accountable - that's fully understood. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence will be appearing before the committee again. He's offered to do that. And also, comprehensive material will be released under Freedom of Information requests by the Department of Foreign Affairs, which will also I think bring clarity as well to the situation. So, you know, as full transparency as possible is necessary and will be provided."
