Micheál Martin launched the initiative at Hollyhill Library.

The programme launched today will offer people and health practitioners on the northside of the city increased health and wellbeing programmes to support healthier lifestyles.

The HSE-supported initiatives include help to stop smoking, a parenting programme, nutrition and cookery courses and services to support people with identified needs around alcohol use.

Today's announcement also includes €250,000 for new staff that will work at community level with Cork City Council and the HSE to ensure services are administered effectively.

The northside is one of 19 areas across the country set to benefit from the programme, with almost €19.5 million including a once off fund of €4.75 million for local authorities being invested.
