The Taoiseach says the government is listening and has made significant interventions to deal with the cost of living crisis.

Micheál Martin was speaking at Cork University Hospital today ahead of a cost of living protest in the city this hour.

The Cost of Living Coalition are holding their third protest on Grand Parade today to call for more to be done to help people struggling this winter.

Over 7,500 people attended the Campaign's last rally in September.

Speaking to RedFM News earlier today, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the government committed billions in the Budget to easing the crisis:

"It's a very wide ranging package that supports many, many sectors in our economy. In terms of the tax reductions, the pay increases that happened through the Public Service Pay Agreement and the pay increases that have happened in the private sector in many areas. And then you add to that the reduction in costs, which I wouldn't dismiss, I mean, third level, student fees down by €1000, and also then Secondary School Transport Fees waived. The DPS again - the threshold reduced again and that, inpatient hospital charges eliminated".
