The Taoiseach has described as "reprehensible" attacks on health care workers in hospitals
He was reacting to the news the Gardai have been rostered on duty at the Mercy University Hospital in Cork in response to rising threats to staff .
Speaking to RedFM News Taoiseach Micheal Martin says Gardai should not have to be rostered to protect hospital staff
"The Gardaí are there to protect but it shouldn't be the case that Gardaí should have to roster in respect of a particular hospital or to be on duty. And it's very distressing for staff and it's very distressing for patients. It is a reflection of a range of issues in society, but it's something that we do need to clamp down on"
