The Tánaiste says he is pushing for ‘creative solutions’ in relation to potential US tariffs on the Irish pharmaceutical industry.
The sector employs tens of thousands of people, most notably in Cork, which is a hub for the world’s leading pharma companies.
US President Donald Trump has previously spoke of his desire to bring pharmaceutical companies back to America and has threatened high tariffs on imports.
Speaking to RedFM News Tánaiste Simon Harris says he is acutely aware of the situation in Cork
"I am very conscious here in Cork, whether it's Ringaskiddy or Little Island, whether it's areas like Carrigaline, where so many people who live and work in the pharma sector, this is a time of great uncertainty and indeed, anxiety for people. I believe an agreement is absolutely essential, because the level of trade between the US and the EU is far too high to be sniffed at, regardless of who the occupant of the Oval Office is"
