The Tanaiste and Fianna Fail leader admits there were some areas in which his party didn't perform during the local elections.

Fianna Fail is in line to drop the number of seats it held in local government since 2019, but could be on track to win 3 seats in Europe.

Micheál Martin believes a lack of solutions to the issues facing the public was a reason why Sinn Fein didn't have as good a day as they had hoped.

However the Tanaiste adds, while he's happy with the result, there are areas his party needs to assess:

"I have to concentrate on the Fianna Fáil party. We have lessons to learn from this. We have to evaluate this election from our own point of view. We did well in many, many areas. There's other areas where we didn't do as well, and there's aspects of the logistics of our campaign that we can improve upon. Si that's it's a matter of other parties to focus on themselves."
