Summer is not always a holiday for children who contact Childline.

That’s according to the ISPCC in Cork which has launched an urgent fundraising appeal as children start school holidays.

The charity which supports young people says summer is a difficult time for young people with difficult home situations.

Aoife Griffin from the ISPCC in Cork told RedFM News some children struggle when they leave the comfort of their school environment:

"Maybe home situations where there's a lot of tension, maybe some domestic violence. For some children, they may be the main carer for a parent, you know. I suppose it's just trying to raise awareness that not every child will experience the fun, happy, sun drenched summer that you know, we would hope, and would expect."
