Students with intellectual disabilities are set to benefit from major new funding secured by University College Cork.
The university has been awarded 1 million euro from the Higher Education Authority for their efforts in opening higher education to students with intellectual disabilities, specifically their course: Certificate in Contemporary Living.
In 2008, the programme was established with the support of the Brothers of Charity, Cope Foundation and Enable Ireland.
Since then over 100 students have graduated from the two-year, part-time programme.
It was designed to offer post-secondary education for people with intellectual disabilities, and has since been recognised as a model of good practice.
President of UCC John O'Halloran has welcomed the 1 million euro award.
