Students will walk out of their lectures next month to highlight the impact the cost of living crisis is having on people in college.
It comes as the UCC students union attended the Cork Cost of Living Campaign press conference earlier today.
The "student walk out" will take place on the 13th of October as the students prepare to call on the Government to abolish college fees, ban privately owned student accomodation and invest more in public student accomodation.
The SU say that the current accommodation crisis is having a severe impact on students, with many deferring their place for a year because they cannot find an affordable place to live for the year.
Speaking to RedFM News, Student Welfare Officer at UCC SU, Alannah O'Connor says some students who just got accepted to college won't be able to attend:
"Again the main problem for students who just accepted their CAO offers is finding accommodation or finding affordable accommodation is really what the problem, is a lot of them who kind of would have pushed off finding accommodation because they didn't know you know if they're going to end up in Cork or Dublin or Galway, they're left in a position they were they're having to spend like €800/€900 a month one accommodation because there's just not nowhere that's more affordable."
