A stream in Whitechurch has been compared to a septic tank.
Local residents want the outflow from the sewage-treatment plant there to be investigated and a pumping station operational.
Speaking to RedFM News, John Foley, Vice-Chairperson of the Whitechurch and Waterloo Community Association says if the issue is not resolved soon, it could have significant implications for the surrounding area:
"I mean the obvious thing is there's going to be an impact on the flora and fauna of the area and secondly, which is a massive issue, is downstream. This waste is going to be filtering down into the water table and if this gets into private wells, it'll cause sickness, it'll cause danger to humans."
