Cork County Council and Cork City Council have issued a flood risk warning and are advising motorists and cyclists to be cautious.
It comes as a status orange rain warning has been issued for the county.
Intense rain and some flooding is expected in Cork, Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny.
The warning is currently in place until 5 o'clock this evening.
A status yellow rain warning is currently in place for the entire country, until midnight.
Met Eireann meteorologist Mathew Martin says travel could be hit:
At present, we're expecting around the region 20 to 30, millimetres of rain so that will be going falling on top of already saturated surfaces and rivers so, certainly in local areas where they see the heaviest downpours, we can expect some floating on roads and potential for some disruption to travel in the worst affected areas through today."
