A house in Douglas was searched by Gardai and members of the army bomb disposal unit yesterday and shotguns, ammunition and explosives were seized
It follows the arrest of a man in his 40's in Mallow on Tuesday night after gardai stopped his vehicle and found three suspected guns, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine
Speaking to RedFM News Former Lord Mayor of the city and local Independent Councillor Kieran McCarthy says the house where the weapons were found is in a very quiet area of Douglas
"People are saddened by this and I think more than saddened, just shocked by this. You just don't expect this, in quiet suburbia in Douglas so it's great the guards are on the case of it. But I think there's a job of work as well, just to liaise with some of the local residents and just calm the shock a little bit, and just to chat to people about what's going on"
