The magic of Christmas officially begins in Cork this evening as the Corkmas Parade will light up the city with music, colour and festive cheer
From 7pm the city's streets will transform into a sparkling winter wonderland as performers, dancers and bands join Santa Claus on a parade through the city and the switch on of the Christmas lights with media partner RedFM

He is expected to get a huge welcome as he flies in as the star attraction for the Corkmas Parade which is going ahead despite the wet weather
The public is being advised to use public transport where possible or the Black Ash Park and Ride and to be aware of some street closures to facilitate the parade
Speaking to RedFM News Events Manager with Cork City Council Trish Murphy is encouraging families to come into the city and soak up the atmosphere
"We're encouraging people just to wrap up and dress appropriately, leave the umbrellas at home and just wear your raincoats. We're asking people also, just because of the numbers, be mindful of traffic diversions and plans in place, encouraging people to use the park and ride and public transport, where possible"
