The jury in the trial of Richard Satchwell has seen a video of an October 2023 interview in which he admits burying Tina Satchwell under the stairs of their home.
The 58-year-old of Grattan Street, Youghal, Cork has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife Tina at the same address in March 2017.
Richard Satchwell cried as he told Gardaí his wife had ‘just flew at' him on the 20th of March 2017.
He said he had fallen backwards, said he didn’t know what to do and had held Tina for up to half an hour.
He indicated the belt of her bathrobe was at her neck.
He said, “Shame, panic, I don’t know” and how there was no ‘taking back’ what had happened.
He said he knew the 20th of March was one of those days Tina could be ‘nice or nasty,’ as it was the anniversary of her grandmother’s death.
He said the real reason he had stopped at Grange Church on the way to Dungarvan in county Waterford was to light a candle for his wife.
He told Gardaí he had ‘no excuses’ for not coming forward.
The trial continues.
