Residents in Sunday’s Well say a huge student complex would have a detrimental impact on traffic in the area.

The city council has granted planning permission on a 957-bed student complex at the former Good Shepherd Convent.

Speaking to RedFM News, Chairman of Blarney Street and surrounding areas Community Association Tom Coleman says traffic is already at a constant standstill with people commuting to the city from rural areas:

"An area that's already in gridlock with traffic, both Blarney Street and Sunday's Well and the North Mall, that whole ring, there's a lot of developments in more rural areas now and they're coming back into the city and using both Blarney Street and Sunday's Well and it's very unfair really."
