Rents in Munster are now 15.6% higher than a year ago.

Here in Cork rents in the county have recorded the largest rise after they jumped 14.6% on last years figures and now average €1211 while city rents have gone up by 6.9% with the average now standing at €1544.

The increase in rents across Cork and nationally reflects an on-going and unprecedented scarcity of rental homes.

Rents are now at their highest level since 2019.

Author of the report, Ronan Lyons, says rents are rising faster outside the capital.

"If you go outside the five main cities, rents are up 12% year on year, and in some places 20% year on year.

"In Dublin and the other cities, increases are 3-6% depending on where you're looking."
