Family of residents of Beaumont residential care say they will protest until Government step in and provide adequate funding for the home.

A second protest is underway now outside the Dail as residents of the nursing home are facing eviction and their families don't know where the residents will be re-homed.

The home is withdrawing from the fair deal scheme because National Treatment Purchase Fund is refusing to cover cost of living increases.

Beaumont Residential Care were informed by management in May that Fair Deal nursing home residents receive €738 less per week than HSE nursing home residents.

53 of the residents who are on the fair deal scheme will have to move and many of them have Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

Mark Kelleher said it was an incredibly difficult decision to make the choice to put his mother into home.

Speaking to RedFM News, Mark says family members will keep fighting until the residents can stay:

"We'll keep fighting anyway, no matter what. That is the plan to keep putting pressure on them. If we do not get what we want what we need. Our families need, what the residents need to keep fighting for till they get what they need. It's hard enough to put your parents into a nursing home, to come to that realisation that you cannot look after your own parents. So you get that little bit of comfort knowing that they will be looked after and to know that will be taken away from them. It's despicable. It's heartbreaking."
