Two men who spent the night in a tent outside a proposed asylum centre in the city say they will stay there for as long as it takes.

A larger demonstration took place outside the former Dominican Fathers’ Ennismore retreat centre in Mayfield last night after it emerged the Department of Integration is considering housing refugees and international protection applicants there.

Protests are taking place outside several confirmed and proposed asylum centres including Fermoy and Roscrea in Co Tipperary

RedFM News spoke to Mark Sutton who is one of two men outside the centre today

"There is no racism of xenophobia up here. This is a peaceful protest, there is not going to be any trouble and if there was to be trouble we would be the first ones to address it and sort it out"
