The prosecution in the trial of Richard Satchwell said his actions in the aftermath of the death of his wife were ‘brazen’, ‘conniving’ and ‘full of guile.’

The 58-year-old of Grattan Street, Youghal, county Cork has pleaded NOT guilty to the murder of Tina Satchwell at the same address in March 2017.

Opening her closing speech to the jury, prosecution barrister Gerardine Small said the case is ‘screaming out’ for their common sense.

Ms Small told the jury of seven woman and five men Mr Satchwell sent an email to a group called International Monkey Rescue Organisation at 10:42 on the morning he said Tina had attacked him with a chisel as a way to create a digital footprint to avail of later.

She told the jury the email was a very calculated, very deliberate and very reasoned move by Richard Satchwell.

Closing statements continue this afternoon.
