A dog welfare group in Cork says they've seen an increase in the number of people having to surrender their pets as a result of rental properties not accepting them.
It follows calls and a petition from Dogs Trust for the Government to change the law and stop allowing blanket bans on pets in tenancy agreements.
Speaking to RedFM News, Moire O Sullivan, spokesperson at Cork's Dog Action Welfare Group says many people are left with no choice:
"We have beloved family pets but if it's the choice between the dog or being homeless and in some cases it's for families with children for whom that can't even be an option. It's very very difficult to get rental accommodation when you have a pet and it just puts added pressure on the whole rescue system that pets that are wanted and nobody wants to surrender are having to be surrendered."
