People are being asked to explore all available options before turning up to the Emergency Department at CUH today.
Yesterday marked the worst day of overcrowding since the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation began keeping track of trolley numbers in 2006, with 84 people on trolleys.
It's led to huge delays at the Emergency Department, with some patients waiting up to three days for a bed.
Ambulance crews have also been forced to wait for up to 10 hours to unload patients
The INMO says the situation is "dangerous" and "a disgrace" and is calling on the HSE to seek more capacity in private hospitals.
Speaking to RedFM News, Professor of Emergency Medicine at CUH Conor Deasy says staff are doing their very best to deal with the situation.
"What the staff are witnessing in terms of the patient that they're treating is is very difficult.
"We haven't witnessed this level of congestion at any stage during the pandemic, or before the pandemic - this is the worst we have ever seen.
"We really do feel for the patients that are in that situation, we really genuinely would not want that for any of our own families, and for the patients that we treat - it shouldn't be like this."
