The owner of a creche in West Cork says parents who cannot find childcare are being forced out of work.
5000 children are now on waiting lists for creches across the county with the average cost of childcare in the city and suburbs now €212 per week according to Pobal.
Speaking to RedFM News, Averil Sheehan from Care-A-Lot Childcare in Innishannon says providers warned the Government there would be closures because of funding issues:
"I'm turning away people left, right and centre, and it's absoloutely a disgrace that there is no place for these people to get childcare. A lot of women are being forced out of the workforce, it's frightening. We highlighted this about three years ago with the Department saying it would be a huge issue, and here we have it, it's a huge issue."
