A resident at the Owenacurra Mental Health facility is reportedly set to be moved to a facility that has previously been criticised by the mental health watchdog.

The Irish Examiner report that one of the residents is to be moved to Unit 3 at St Stephen's Hospital in Glanmire.

The Examiner say that the inspector of mental health services had voiced concerns over the unit at St Stephen's hospital back in March, following a report that highlighted a number of issues, including fire safety issues and what was called an 'inexplicable' system of governance at Unit 3.

At the time, Dr. Susan Finnerty, said that "it was clear from their inspections that they have serious concerns about the care and treatment of residents in the unit."

Owenacurra was due to close in June of 2021, but has remained operational with no replacement being found for its residents.
