A local representative and business man says every effort needs to be made to get flood defence work completed in Bantry.
Cllr Danny Collins was speaking after the OPW announced the approval for flood works in the West Cork town.
Over 20 businesses in the town suffered flooding during Storm Barra in December, with locals calling for immediate works to stop the almost regular flooding.
The OPW has committed almost €184,000 to the works.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cllr Danny Collins says there can be no delays
"It's happening two or three times a year now and it's all to do I suppose with climate change that's what they're saying. All we want to see is shovels in the ground and work starting. I know there's consultation after consultation but these consultations have to stop. A bit of common sense has to prevail for people to live in peace in their homes, And people who have businesses cannot be living in fear that they will be closed and flooded month after month"
