It's the first time the event organised by Visit Cork in association with Fáilte Ireland and Cork Airport will take place in-person since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The recovery of the sector, which employed over 22,000 people in the city and county before Covid, is the key theme.

Recruitment and training of new staff for the hospitality sector will be discussed and attendees will be briefed on the latest news regarding efforts to secure major conferences.

Speaking to RedFM News, Evelyn O'Sullivan from Visit Cork outlines one of the major positives of the city for business tourism:

"We're up against top destinations for this but oftentimes they see that we have this unified approach and that we all come together. Cork for a 500 or 600 person conference is such an ideal location because even if the delegates are spread out in three or four or five hotels across the city or even if they go out into the outskirts, it's such a walkable city- they really get a good feel for the city and they are not stuck out in the outskirts somewhere in a convention centre."

The Visit Cork Industry Day will take place at the Fota Island Resort from 10am to 12:30pm on Thursday with registration from 9:30am. People involved in tourism in Cork City and County are welcome. Email [email protected] for more information.
