Hundreds of people stood by and filmed as a man got into difficulty while swimming in the River Lee in Cork city on Wednesday night
Gardai had to push people back and increase the cordon around emergency personnel who were unable to save 33 year-old Luke Hyde
The tragic event happened was live streamed by some onlookers as it unfolded on Pope's Quay
Speaking to RedFM News Second Officer with Cork City Fire Brigade Victor Shine says no-one threw a life buoy in the water to help the drowning man
"There are numerous life buoys along those quay walls and with hundreds of people all those life buoys could have been brought into operation to render aid to that second person who drowned"
