A fire crew and Swift Water Rescue Technicians had to assist one person after a car went into the river at Blackrock this afternoon

Crews from Anglesea Street responded to the scene this lunchtime after the alarm was raised by people who reported the car was hanging off the pier

One patient had to be taken safely from the water and treated by paramedics at the scene

Gardai say the reversing car fell onto the slipway of the harbour and the driver, was checked at the scene and was uninjured.

The man in his 70's was taken to Cork University Hospital as a precaution.
