The Diocese of Cork and Ross say there is no way of knowing if a Cork priest who was jailed for sexual offences in the UK abused children while he was working in Cork

James Murphy served in parishes in England until 1992 and then returned to Cork where he was a priest in St Patrick's in Cork city and Glounthaune for eight years

He was jailed for 31 months for historical sexual offences against four boys in the UK

The Diocese of Cork and Ross has issued a statement and is appealing to anyone who wants to make a report to contact them, the Gardaí or TUSLA

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Fr Tom Hayes spokesman for the Cork and Ross Diocese says there are supports in place for anyone who makes contact

"So if there is somebody listening, who is carrying a worry or carrying a concern or carrying an experience like that, I would always encourage them to please know that there is help and that there is support available, and that they will be given every support that's needed"
