The Lord Mayor of the city says mouldy, damp and rodent infested flats on Noonan’s Road must be demolished.
The remaining tenants were notified yesterday of plans by the council to demolish 2 blocks.
Speaking to RedFM News, Lord Mayor of the City Councillor Fergal Dennehy says tenants must be moved to a better standard of accommodation:
"These flats were built in a different time, building materials are very different today than what they would have been back then, single glazed PVC windows that you wouldn't put in a shed today. We need to give people a proper standard of accommodation and we're looking to be a carbon neutral city by 2030, and to do that, we need to upgrade all of our housing stock."
