There are no plans for the Rosscarbery/Owenahincha wastewater treatment plant to be upgraded - despite calls from the local community.

Cork South West TD Christopher O’Sullivan raised the matter in the Dáil this week saying lifeguards on duty at Warren Strand by Rosscarbery reported seeing raw sewage coming towards the beach last August

This resulted in the beach being closed for more than a week.

The Irish Examiner is reporting that locals are blaming the Rosscarbery/Owenahincha Wastewater Treatment Plant but that an Irish Water investigation into the cause of the plume was "inconclusive".

Minister of State Anne Rabbitte says no upgrades are currently planned but it would be considered again for the 2025-2029 plan.
