Nine Cork branches of Bank of Ireland close their doors today

The Finance Minister says the closure of more than a third of Bank of Ireland branches is a reflection of a big change in how people bank.

A total of 88 branches around the country will close today following the Bank’s announcement last March, including nine in Cork - the most of any county in the country.

Branches in Glanmire, Bantry, Cobh, Dunmanway, Kanturk, Millstreet, Mitchelstown and Youghal are all closing.

It’s part of a shift towards online services while some transactions will now be available through the post office.
