New measures announced last night by the Government, as part of new Covid regulations, may help families to feel safer going to the Panto this festive season.

That's the opinion of the Artistic Director of the Everyman, Sophie Motley.

A limit of 50 per cent capacity at live events was one of the new measures announced last night .

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment will be reintroduced for those let-go in certain industries.

In a statement, Cork Opera House said that the restrictions are "highly likely to affect" their customers who have booked tickets to their panto, but that they would be kept informed of any changes.

However, speaking to RedFM News, Sophie Motley said that the Everyman Panto should be able to go ahead, almost as planned, so people can still have a laugh this Christmas:

"We are really prepared for making sure coming to the panto is a safe experience for everybody. And the fact that there will only be 50% capacity in the theatre, I hope, will make family feel even safer. We've been working really hard with all of our staff team since mid-September when we opened to make sure that the building is safe, that it's controlled, to ensure that everybody is really able to do what they need to do, and have a laugh this Christmas at the panto."
