Nearly €25,000 worth of contraband cigarettes and tobacco were seized at Cork Airport

The operation by Revenue officers last Thursday saw the seizure of 23,400 cigarettes and 6kgs of tobacco

The cigarettes and tobacco, were branded ‘John Player Blue’ and ‘Amber Leaf’ and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €19,000.

The discovery was made when Revenue officers searched the bags of passengers arriving on a flight from the Canary Islands.

At Shannon Airport yesterday herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €20,000 were discovered in parcels originating from the US and destined for an address in Cork
