MTU Students’ Union says a move to shared student accommodation would be half a step forward.

The Minister for Higher Education James Lawless today brought proposals to cabinet for state supported campus accommodation consisting of shared rooms and bathrooms.

Speaking to RedFM News, MTU Students’ Union President Richard Noonan says students who cannot afford accommodation on their own will be forced to share a room:

"It is a step forward, however it's half a step forward. While it's going to be good in giving students more accommodation, it's being viewed as the only solution to this issue. This will be the only solution for students going forward where students are forced to share a room rather than choosing to."
