Students in MTU should keep an eye on their finances, change their passwords and be vigilant around scams,
That's according to the CEO of Smarttech247 after Munster Technological University was forced to close it's four Cork campuses last week following a cyber attack.
MTU confirmed that data had been accessed and copied from its systems during last week’s cyber attack has been made available on the dark web.
The university re-opened their campuses yesterday and say their forensic experts are continuing to investigate the incident, and will review the nature of the data compromised.
Speaking to RedFM News, CEO of Smarttech247, Raluca Saceanu says the disruption caused to students and staff at MTU is a nightmare scenario for any organisation:
"It's known that their finance system has been compromised. Mainly payroll and employment information. At this stage, it's unknown whether student payment information has been compromised, it's really important for students to be aware of continuous phishing attacks to change the passwords as well, and just practice basic cyber hygiene."
