Most people jailed in Cork in the last five years had addresses on the northside of the city.

A special investigation into Cork crime by the Irish Examiner analysed 5,000 court cases published in the paper since 2020.

Most lived on the northside of the city and their average jail sentence for similar crimes was longer compared to someone living on the southside.

The Irish Examiner's Eoin English told the Neil Prendeville Show Gurranabraher has the youngest average age of those jailed at just under 29 years:

"We often hear about the northside/southisde divide in Cork, our analysis shows that iof the top 10 jail sentences imposed, 7 are  northside. Gurranabraher tops the list, it also has the highest number of young people in terms of jail terms recieved, it has the yougest average age of people who were jailed."
