More than 600 claims of medical malpractice are currently active against HSE South West.
Figures released to Sinn Féin's Thomas Gould show 611 active cases in the South West region, with over 34 million euro in compensation paid out in 2025.
This figure was paid out to 386 unique cases, meaning each case had an average pay out of around €88,800.
The Cork North Central TD is calling this a 'clear crisis' and is urging the government to undertake a case review to identify and fix any gaps so the money can be reallocated to areas in need within the health sector.
