The Mercy University Hospital has launched it's five year strategic plan which it says will transform healthcare delivery
The plan includes a new extension comprising of 72 new beds, an increase in the number of ICU and high dependency units and the centralisation of an expanded theatre complex
Speaking to RedFM News at the launch Margaret McKiernan, Chief Executive Officer at the Mercy says the extra beds will help ease the pressure on the A&E unit which is often overcrowded"
"Additional bed capacity will assist us in reducing the number of patients that are on trolleys in our emergency department, but that development also gives us the opportunity to develop an acute floor model where patients will be appropriately screened into acute medical assessment units and surgical units"
