A man who entered a pensioner’s home and said ‘God sent me’ as he listened to a religious sermon while sitting on the closed lid of a toilet has received a four month sentence.

38-year-old Trevor Morey of no fixed address appeared at Cork District Court today on charges of trespassing and assaulting a Garda.

In his victim impact statement, the 75-year-old man said he realised the loud music he could hear was coming from inside his own home at Carrigrohane, Ballincollig on the 5th of April.

He said to his ‘absolute incredulity’, he found a man sitting on the closed lid of the toilet, staring at his phone and concentrating on a sermon from what he said was a ‘quasi-biblical’ station broadcasting in the Cork area.

The man said Morey made no attempt to steal anything and said he showed no aggression and did not use aggressive words.

Judge Mary Dorgan imposed a four month sentence and back dated it to when Morey entered custody on the 7th of April.
