Major changes to the layout of the Dunkettle Interchange will take effect this morning at 11 o'clock.

Drivers are being urged to pay close attention to road signage, because two new link-roads are opening - as part of the 215 million euro Dunkettle Interchange Upgrade Scheme.

Motorists heading northbound on the N40, through the Jack Lynch Tunnel, towards the Dunkettle Interchange will need to keep LEFT if they want to go EAST onto the N25 towards Midleton.

The other link road opening at the same time will be for those travelling southbound from Fermoy on the M8.

There will be a free-flow slip-road to their left, taking them directly onto the N25 and into Little Island - without having to use the existing interchange at all.

Speaking to RedFM News, a senior engineering inspector with Transport Infastructure ireland, Jim McCarthy says the project is running to schedule.

"The project is on because we're very confident of meeting our completion date of February 2024. Of course, this project is not one big opening as people will have seen. It's about opening one link at a time. So depending on your route, you've got a different benefits at different times and participate more openings in the coming weeks. And through 2023"
