The Money Advice and Budgeting Service in the city is advising people to plan now for back to school costs.

MABS say they are seeing a large increase in the number of people coming to them with concerns about the cost of living and looking for help to stretch their budget.

Grocery inflation, increased fuel costs and spikes in electricity and gas prices have resulted in calls for the government to do more to tackle the cost of living crisis.

Speaking to RedFM News, Jessie Anthony from MABS in Cork is advising families to plan ahead for September:

"The school year isn't even finished for some but it's now time to look at September again. By doing that, it will mean that you can plan and spread the costs that you're going to be faced with in September over the next coming weeks. The advice I would give to people is that they should look to see are they eligible for the Back To School Clothing or Footwear Allowance. They should be getting a letter by the end of June. If you don't get that letter by the end of June, then you really should be looking at ways of applying and seeing whether I qualify or not and going to your local Intro Office or online".
