Locals To Find Out M20 Fate This Afternoon With Announcement of Route

Locals living in a community close to Blarney will find out this hour if the long-delayed Cork to Limerick motorway will pass through their community.

The preferred route for the 100 kilometre M20 is due to be announced in Limerick in the next half hour, with residents of Whitechurch saying they have endured a nervous few days following an 18 month fight against the so called "Navy route".

Early indications are that the Green Route will be the preferred route which would see the towns of Mallow, Buttevant and Charleville bypassed.

Some farmers along the Green Route stand to lose land running through the middle of their farms and they fear the loss at a time when there are calls to grow more food and they've also raised concerns about possible spikes in bovine TB that could follow the construction of the motorway

The "No to Navy" group say the road would split their community in two and have proposed alternatives like upgrading the existing N20 road.
