A local councillor is calling for Irish Rail to address safety concerns related to the railway bridge in Dublin Hill before someone gets seriously injured.
It comes as Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the incident near Blackpool this morning where a double decker bus struck the bridge and overturned.
Bus Éireann confirmed that no passengers were on board the bus at the time, which was out of service and say they will carry out a full investigation.
Dublin Hill was closed for around 3 hours this morning after the incident and Iarnrod Éireann said the 7am train from Dublin to Cork was delayed by 30 minutes until the bridge was cleared to be safe for traffic.
Independent Councillor Ken O'Flynn says Cork City Council have done everything they can possibly do to warn people of the low bridge ahead.
Speaking to RedFM News, he says it's no longer acceptable for Irish Rail to allow buses and trucks to get stuck there:
"If we went into paddy powers in the morning, and we laid down the bet saying what are the chances of somebody being seriously injured? Considering that we've had so many trucks in the last two years stuck there, that we've had a bus vertically overturned there, we've had situations previously that were thankfully nobody has been injured. I would imagine we would get very, very good odds that there is going to be a seriously serious injury or worse happen in Dublin hill if this has not addressed."
