Local authority members in Cork county are concerned that rent hikes for council tenants are undoing the supports in October's budget.
That's according to today's Echo which is quoting several councillors who believe the means test to calculate rents is unfair.
The paper claims County Council housing tenants face rent increases of up to 40 percent because of the means test used to calculate a suitable rent.
New and increased welfare payments in this year’s budget, are assessed as an increase in income, even though they were introduced to help people deal with the cost of living crisis.
RedFM News has contact the County Council for comment.
